Born in the year of 1954, in a well settled family of Amritsar, he completed his schooling in the year 1970, did his B.A. from Hindu College, Amritsar in 1974 and was awarded the Second Prize in English in 1974 by the then Governor of Punjab, and thereafter, he did his M.A. (English) from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla in 1976.
